I timed the purchase of a 'bike to work' bike to perfection in November 2019, just before all the COVID lockdowns started. COVID was an opportunity for me to embrace solo cycling and I celebrated my new found love of this with a cycle of the C2C route from Whitehaven to Tynemouth (222km) in 12 hours 50 mins.

I completed this event with a group of friends in 2023. Exhausting but rewarding, possibly the hardest physical thing I have ever done!

STUNNING route through the island chain of the Outer Hebrides. Some challenging winds experienced but what a stunning place! We then finished with a cycle across to Inverness from Ullapool and back down to Oban via Fort William.

Buying a gravel bike was one of the best adventure decisions I have ever made! The ability to just follow your nose and not be as restrcited by surfaces but equally not having a big chunky heavy bike to heave around roads is just brilliant.

More locally a fascinating adventure into an abandoned Cornish tinmine and a brilliant day underground vertical and horizontal trip through Allum Pot in the Yorkshire Dales. More please!
