The older I get, the more fun I am having! I excel in being a fairly average skill level at a number of things but doing so with great enthusiasm and a big grin on my face! I love to push my boundaries, I love adventure, I love travel and I love a challenge. In doing so, I've also discovered I'm pretty resilient, and heck, I've even broken an ocean rowing Guinness World Record! I love trying to encourage others to challenge their own inhibitions and do the same - you don't know unless you try, and you might surprise yourself!
My dad has been my outdoors inspiration - the person who encouraged me to have a go at things, push my boundaries. Dad never differentiates me for being female and in fact used to let me join him on his weekends away, and sometimes longer ventures further afield, with his friends. And this has probably played a big factor in my passion for mixed gender endeavours.
After a 10 year somewhat unhealthy hiatus - the uni years! - and losing confidence in my ability outdoors, I discovered a new lease of life and re-engaged with my love of the great outdoors and adventurous travel. This also led to a passion for water based and, in true British style, sitting down sports. I started rowing in 2012 and quickly caught the bug, racing successfully both regionally and nationally. I also discovered the joys of expedition sea kayaking, paddleboarding, cycling, packrafting, and getting back into my beloved hills, scrambling and walking both in the UK and abroad.
Holidays now seem to invariably involve some element of outdoor activity occasionally causing some debate over the definition of 'holiday' with my long suffering partner.
I’m not superwoman. I’m not a full time athlete. I’m the wrong side of 40 with a dodgy back and an ankle full of metalwork, an overenthusiasm for cake, chocolate and real ale as well as holding down a busy full time job as a project manager. But what I do have is resilience, determination and a truly terrible sense of humour which does a cracking job at finding something to chuckle at in most situations.
